Please note this is an old page and Fly Global Music has now moved. Please follow this link and search for the entry in the new site. El Colobri is a solo effort by a guitarist who has earned high praise from guitarist demi-god Al Di Meola and has been touted as one of the greatest living guitarists at twenty-six. Figueiredo uses his skills of improvisation to conjure up a storm in an album showing virtuosity across graceful classical passages through to confounding jazz runs that pick up pace just as you think he couldn’t possibly. However, if you had started playing when you were four I guess you would expect to be able to play a thing or two. Some passages defy logic but this is not all showboating, Figueiredo has deftness and lightness of touch to prove he’s a class or ten above your average twiddler. This is show-stopping stuff, and Figueiredo is playing in Covent Garden’s Guanabara on 29 January. If you’re unsure as to the album, surely seeing the man play will make your mind up for you… |
