Lawson Rollins - Infinita |
|||||||
|
As with previous works Rollins draws heavily on salsa, bossa, rhumba and Latin jazz. What is different on ‘Infinita’ is the presence of Shanin Shahida as co-produce, and the range of Persian and Indian sounds he brings; the Arabic oud, Persian tar and Indian sitar are just a few examples. And as if that is not ‘world’ enough for you we have soulful piano riffs laid down by producer Dominic Camardella in his Santa Barbara studio, occasional vocals from Afghani Humayun Khan, Azerbaijan kamanche player Imamyar Hassanov and a Prague based string orchestra. Despite occasionally sounding like the theme to a world property show, the East meets South mix clearly works; from the atmospheric moodiness of ‘The Awakening’ to the smooth sexy ‘Cafe Jobim’ the different sounds compliment each well creating an original, rich, textured musical tapestry. Phenomenal album. Just downloaded it off iTunes. The Brazilian and middle eastern sounds blend beautifully. All the songs are distinctive from each other and yet their is a consistent vibe courtesy of the Spanish guitar from Rollins.
