Please note this is an old page and Fly Global Music has now moved. Please follow this link and search for the entry in the new site. You’ll recall we caught up with him at the start of the year as he added 3 Bar Fire Recordings’ Sparo to his list of remixes for Placebo, Le Hammond Inferno, Gecko Turner, Quantic Soul Orchestra and loads more. Sparo does a suitable leftfield downtempo acid jazz joint on his remix that’s in sharp contrast to the DJ Gorky (he of Bonde Do Role) keeps it up beat and Baile Funked. You’ll recall the original was a highlight from the album Piñata mixing up electronica, folk, breaks, Latin, Cha Cha Cha and hip-hop so nobody should be surprised that “Plymouth’s 14th Best DJ” (aka The Vinyl Pimp) and 247’s Journo Aldo Vanucci turns up for a Swiss cuckoo clock of a mix. MIS is a usual artist to be on the Cooking Vinyl label but gives me an excuse to mention that his label mates Pere Ubu will be in London next week performing at the Queen Elizabeth Hall; now a David Thomas remix would have been particularly leftfield. No idea who the Playmovil Project are but this is all mad. Presumably like Mexico City itself but boy does it travel well! BBC Radio 2, 3, 6 Music, London, Kiss FM and XFM have all played it. Just makes you wanna dance and you can’t say much more than that. Reviewed: Mexican Institute Of Sound - ‘Escribeme Pronto’ (Cooking Vinyl) Cat. No. FRY CD 333 Release date: 21st April 2008 Links: |
