OST - El embajador y yo

Groovy, baby, groovy.

El embajador y yo

This soundtrack is the backbone of the 1965 spy comedy flick, El embajador y yo (The Wizard and I) and the score is the brain child of Peruvian musician Jamie Delgado Apericio. The sound is oh-so 60s, all bouffant hair and mini skirts when things were “hip” and being a “cool cat” was the only thing to be.

Heavily laced with clarinets, saxophones and cymbals, this soundtrack will please anyone into 60s spy movies with Pink Panther-style soundtracks. Some tracks such as ‘Todo el mundo me persigue’ (The whole world is after me) is a great example of the pinnacle of 1960s scores with jaunty organs and booming trumpets. The title track is typical and instantly recognisable as a creation of the children of the bebop, beatnik age with dropping beats and jazz sax. It easily holds its own against the soundtrack heavyweights of the era such as Leonard Bernstein’s West Side Story.

The soundtrack captured the Spanish speaking world across both sides of the Atlantic. Not surprising as it’s dead on point with the sound of the era. Think the Jets finger-clicking, dancing around the Sharks, wearing berets and mimicking the Pink Panther.

For those who lived through the 60s this soundtrack is a great reminder of the reason why the musical time was great. While for those who missed it the first time round, this a great soundtrack to start your education of a decade that was.

El embajador y yo is released on Vampisoul.
