Please note this is an old page and Fly Global Music has now moved. Please follow this link and search for the entry in the new site. The album is a lot more than a cumbia or vallenato fest though. Quantic’s soul, jazz and funk roots shine through, as does his love for other tropical styles including the rhythms from the motherland, Africa. Kicking off with ‘The Dreaming Mind Part 1’ a classy, string laden, uplifting instrumental slightly reminiscent of some of Charles Stepney’s work with Rotary Connection the album soon ducks into more tropical territory as ‘Mass Pans’ funky hi-life rhythms kick in graced with some great horn playing courtesy of Lucho Blanco and Angel Meniquito Hernandez. The strings kick in again on the old time Latin jazz winner, ‘Undelivered Letter’ harking back to the golden age of the 60’s closely followed by the dancefloor bomb, ‘Un Canto A Mi Tierra’ an infectious tropical hybrid with the vocal talents of Pacific folklore singer Nidia Gongora and guaranteed to fill dance floors the world over. Post ‘Broken Flowers’ Ethiopian jazz is the inspiration for the excellent ‘Abela’ and the ghost of Charles Stepney makes another appearance on the wonderful spiritual Latin jazz of ‘Arianita’, just two more highlights in this diverse and wonderfully rich album Colombia is obviously inspiring Quantic and his new musical acquaintances are taking him to new heights; let’s hope he stays there! |
