Tamy - Soul Mais Bossa |

Browse the world music section of any record store and you will be bombarded by a plethora of contemporary Brazilian compilations promising to bring you the Now, the New and even the Nu sounds of the country. Like most of those offerings Soul Mais Bossa weaves it way through the usual genres (bossa, samba, elctronica, drum n bass… ) yet there is one distinct difference — the voice on each track is the same, that of Tamy. Hailing from the state of Vitoria, Tamy is doing what so many Brazilians seem to be good at, taking from their country’s rich and varied musical past and building on it — adding a contemporary touch, finely tuning it and making it their own. Comparisons to the likes of Bebel Gilberto and Fernando Porto are inevitable and well-founded yet she retains a distinct sound of her own. A warm, endearing voice that is backed by well-produced funky beats. Soul Mais Bossa is not a groundbreaking album but it is an easy listen — catchy, upbeat lounge music that draws you in and is easily digestible. It will appeal to both the committed Brazilian music fan and the casual listener. |
