Please note this is an old page and Fly Global Music has now moved. Please follow this link and search for the entry in the new site. It features music from the film City of God and three TV adverts including the rap-funk hit 'Follow Me, Follow Me' of Tejo, Black Alien Speed (it's the one where the Nissan 4X4 lead car followed by muddy marathon runners through the city streets). Jorge Ben gets two tracks and both are superb; 'Carolina Carol Bela' and the classic, 'Take It Easy My Brother Charlie'. The Bees are from the Isle of Wight and are more of an indie band. But they kick-off here in fine 70s style with 'A Minha Menina' that was apparently on a Citroen TV Advert. Infrared chips in with a Drum'n'Bass hit. Marcos Valle's 'Parabens' is simply class. The original version came out on Far Out and was featured on Gilles Peterson's Brazil double CD compilation (Ether, 2004). The set closes with the brilliant bossa night club crooning of Lennie Dale on 'The Lady Is A Tramp'. It was originally released in 1965 so where else can you get it? The downside is the stuff that is on the edge of making it, such as the hip hop, scratchy, funky disco flavas do not sound so great in comparison. On balance, more good than bad. UK release date: 5 April 2004. (Outcaste) TRACKS: |
