worldwide_flyer.jpg

Voting is via a mini-site (see links below) and it will be live for a month until 1st December. To vote you have to register via email and then you get 1 or 2 votes depending on the categories. So it’s a good time to have a recap of what the Hectic’s been looking at and a few things that have slipped through the busy fingers of type.

TRACK OF THE YEAR (2 Votes)
MOD X - ‘The Quest’ (Paul Murphy Remix) “Afro Broken Beat meets Tribal House and Jazz Salsa and the result is an energetic and indispensable record.”
Recloose - ‘Dust’ (Peacefrog)
Bossa Futura - ‘Sol Y Luna’ / ‘Inside Your Head’ (Further Out Recordings) TUNES.CO.UK Single of The Week and PICCADILLY RECORDS - Record of The Week - Latin, African, World Section. Classy 12” from Bossa Futura combining classic Latin beats and vocals with spacey effects to devastating effect. On the flip `Inside Your Head` continues in the same vein combining Latin flavours with a more straight up hip hop break.
Damian ‘Jr. Gong’ Marley - ‘Welcome to Jamrock’ (Tuff Gong/Island) Ray Keith d’n’b remix bootleg is even better?
Mum’s The Word - ‘Star Fi De Show’ (Grey)

Special Mentions
Peak - ‘Get Carter’ (Paul Murphy Remix) (Afro Art)- Rekindling the Indo-Jazz sub set and film soundtrack obsession.
Pano: Optikum - ‘Black Land Of The Nile’ feat. Blue Eyez (Deja Vu) Modal Monster
David Murray & The Gwo-Ka Masters - ‘Gwotet’ (Just In Time) Last year?

Dwight Trible and The Life Force Trio - ‘Love Is The Answer’ (Ninja Tune) Isn’t it time we tried? Peace and love.
Daedelus - ‘Exquisite Corpse’ (Ninja Tune). It’s hard for Hectic not to say a sentence without mentioned Daedelus and this week, I was spreading the word to Rugan, the guitarist with LA band punk band NOHI who’ll be supporting his neighbour!

Special Mentions
La Cédille - ‘Vu Du Large’ (Chocolate Fireguard) The French Roots but better!

Nostalgia77/Ben Lamdin: From the Hope Suite to Jelly Jazz and last weeks big-up from Gilles for the Nostalgia 77/Ed Mota show at Cargo.
F-ire Collective: could have come under label, gig or this section. Huge influence from the cross-over work of Acoustic Ladyland to Robert Mitchell.
Re: Edit: Underground master with more to come with the sissors and the cellotape.

And he really should have a GIG OF THE YEAR in which case it would be one of three:
Ian Carr’s Nucleus @ Cargo, London (Weds, 31st AUG 2005). Wicked review in the Guardian.
Keepintime @ Cargo: Daedelus (Live) J Rocc (DJ) Charlie Dark (DJ) DJ Food and DK (DJ). The B+/Eric Coleman project that has already moved onto Brazil.
The Heritage Orchestra @ Jazz Brittania

Last year was the first year of an awards show which was held at Cargo. This year they are happening at the same place that Madonna has announced she will be launching her new album, at the recently refurbished Camden Palace/Music Machine now called Koko’s.
