Record Store Day (19th April 2008)

On Saturday, 19th April, 2008, hundreds of independently owned music stores on two continents will celebrate “Record Store Day.”

RecordStoreDay08.jpg

Musicians and fans alike will be getting involved with one of the orginal social networking scenes, record buying in shops.

The days of grumpy and intimidating record shop owners are things of the past as the shop retail part of the industry continues to suffer at the dawn of download revolution. Nobody thought (or didn’t want to think) just how many shops would disappear; Mole Jazz and Reckless Records to name just two.

Undeterred by their Radiohead experience or my recent visit to purchase the Lupen Crook 7”, Rough Trade East are entering into the spirit of thing with varied day of activities planned (see details below) but any Record Store is in need of a visit tomorrow; even HMV (but try and keep it independent).

Even if you can’t buy some of the Hectic top five, you can always order them in person and have a good old flick at the vinyl. You know you want to.
