Spencer Murphy - Independent Record Shops |

As advertised by Gilles Peterson this week, Spencer Murphy’s celebration of independent record shops has a touch of last rites about it as If.. Music (Jean-Claude Thompson) has closed down the shop in Greens Court and has gone ‘virtual’ I’m told, Mister CD (David) closed down some time ago whilst Harold Moores (Andy & Daisey) in Great Marlborough Street is the ground floor of the last resting place of Mole Jazz; Is it any wonder the folks behind the counter have a glum expression? On the bring side, DnB Veteran Nicky Blackmarket is still in D’Arblay St, Wyld Pytch (Zorra) in Lexington Street are still going whilst Vinyl Junkies (Jean-Paul) and Sister Ray (Matt) have done undergone some leasehold relocation along Berwick St but are still there. Best of the lot is the shrine of all things fly at Sounds Of The Universe (aka Soul Jazz) on Broadwick Street. Whether you’d want a 40×40 signed print in your living room to remind you of your Earl Zinger shopping trips (a la ‘Saturday Morning Rush’ of the seminal album Earl Zinger’s Put Your Phazers On Stun Throw Your Healthfood Skyward: check his current guise as a Junkyard Gods). If you can’t make 63 Broadwick Street between 16-24 May 2008, check the links out below and keep the vinyl faith and make every day a Record Store Day. Links |
