Renowned for being perfectly poised between the jazz crowd, the underground hip hop scene and the heavy soul beat sound of the likes of Sa Ra and Madlib, Carlos Nino and Fabian Ammon have gathered guests from those differing schools of thought to create a rousing unified album effort. From the jazz scene comes the legendary Yusef Lateef and Dwight Trible, long time collaborator of the classic ensemble Build An Ark, who provide the soulful vibes under some loose, abstract verbalistics courtesy of Prince Po on ‘Beautiful Flowers’. From the hip hop sphere comes Scienz of Life and MF Doom cohort Lil Sci — who sprinkles a little magic on a few tracks most notably ‘With Voices’ a pulsating, bounce fest of a tune — Abstract Rude and Brother J. With further contributions from the esoteric Daedelus and Mai Doi Todd you could say the twosome have a collaborator to suit every facet of their revered sound. Whilst the collabs sound impressive enough on paper to hear them bouncing off one another is quite something else again. Bursting with spirituality and positivity like never before, With Voices is Ammoncontact’s masterwork. |
