Brownout - Slinky EP

Tal M. Klein and his mates get off their Magical Horses and get on some dirty funk with Brownout; oh yeah!

Please note this is an old page and Fly Global Music has now moved. Please follow this link and search for the entry in the new site.

Not to be confused with the famous Slinky club night, this is Brownout’s ‘Slinky’ that’s a track taken from last years’ album Aguilas and Cobras (still a popular staff choice in London’s Fopp store I’ve have you know).

For fans of the Tal M. Klein (he of Plastic Starfish, Crawling Up The Spout and more recently, Magical Horses), I don’t think there’s any surprises anymore as he’s constantly brilliant whether on his own tracks or on a remix. O.K. ‘Slinky’ is pretty good as an opener but slap on some conga disco hand claps and emphasise the Hypnotic Brass Band horn (plus some echo dub) and ‘Slinky’ takes off!

And when it’s Anilgital Music these days, you can be sure that Anthony Mansfield is there or there abouts in the disco! Yep, I said disco! When Magical Horses EP came out we’d just had some nu-skool from Norway and the original back catalogue of Disco Discharge released (as an aside, there’s rumours of even more Disco Discharge coming soon). I digress; Mansfield mix of funk disco is just what the Dr. ordered (not forgetting some Rubberfunk action with his new single, Northern Comfort).

The last track on the 12” is definitely in the Dr Rubberfunk zone. The CaZ team comprised Chris Nicholson and Mike Zarin (did you see what they did there?) and their remix is all about the dubbed out guitar and synths.

Yet another must have from Aniligital Music and if they keep this up, they are fast becoming our favourite label from the West Coast!
