Please note this is an old page and Fly Global Music has now moved. Please follow this link and search for the entry in the new site. The singles ‘Air’ (with MF Doom) and ‘Game Over’ (featuring Phat Kat and the late, great Jay Dee) gave the world an early glimpse of where the Dabrye sound is currently at. Two/Three sees Mullinx combining the rhythmic inventiveness and locked-down production of his earlier work with a formidable array of MC talent to push his art in fresh new directions. Crisp beats and squelchy electro basslines vie with discordant electronic flourishes in a minimal, funky vision of 21st Century hip hop. The list of collaborators is genuinely impressive and gives some idea of the prestige with which Mullinx is held in progressive hip hop quarters, with guest spots from Beans (Anti-Pop Consortium), Waajeed (Platinum Pied Pipers), Vast Aire (Cannibal Ox) and Wildchild amongst others. Elsewhere the instrumental numbers show off the versatility of Mullinx’ programming skills to full effect, evoking the otherworldly textures of Detroit techno as often as more conventional hip hop reference points. Forward-looking yet always accessible, Two/Three is a triumphant reimagining of the Dabrye sound with something to offer all fans of experimental electronic music. |
