Dwele & Love Unlimited Orchestra - 'Affinity' / 'Midnight Groove' |

Please note this is an old page and Fly Global Music has now moved. Please follow this link and search for the entry in the new site. What's exclusively landed in my lap are a couple of clever a re-edits as you're going to find. The likes of Red Astaire at G.A.M.M. to ya Yam Whoses of the world will be droppin' jaws when they get this on Import. Dwele is one of Detroit's favourite sons and may get the nominal A-side. Not only is he local, but he's been very quiet lately? His web site currently headlines the news that 'On April 8 Dwele participated in WRKS 98.7's "The KISS Cares Foundation" fundraising event in celebration of National Autism Awareness month' ; hardly news some 11 months later! The world is a sadder place without his voice. So it's good to hear 'Affinity' with a shufflin' broken tip backing. Not sure where the vocal came from. In the summer of 2003, he was live on Gilles Peterson's Worldwide show and did a monstrous version of 'Affinity' and 'Red Clay'. The latter with Roy Hargrove who happened to be in London at the same time. Broken West London waits in anticipation. On the other side, 'Midnight Groove' creeps in the night. It builds up on a simple riff and you know there's funk in the air when the strings come in after some 'Dance, Dance' heavy breathing. There's a party goin' on 1970s style. Let's all clap along and get all wobbly. Funtime. The original was on the 1975, Love Unlimited Orchestra album Music Maestro Please. So good to hear this lush, string-laden disco-funk in a modern setting. There is a slight health warning as Kenny G was a member of the LUO! As the 40-piece Orchestra behind Barry White, you;re not going to find anyone doing this type of stuff now. The closest I know of as the only 'competition' is Britain's Heritage Orchestra. Lets hope there's no Kenny G equivalent amongst them! [Sorry Ken]. So check out my charts and watch-out for both these two tracks as they'll will be running up them quicker than Berry Gordy moved Motown outta Detroit in 1972. Soul Searchin' is done for the day. Great job. Reviewed: Love Unlimited Orchestra / Dwele - R.E.-Edits Volume One (R.E.-Edits) Cat. No. REEDIT01 Release date: 2005
