“Funk is a many splendid thing, Funk is a nasty dirty vibe and a sweaty, sexy feel”. You can’t really argue with that as break/soul funk producer Funktransplant releases the What Is Funk EP.

First up on the remix is Neighbour (aka Matt Dauncey) who we first come across on the remix of Tal M. Klein’s ‘Emmylou’s Underwater Petting Zoo’ off the brilliant album Plastic Starfish from last year. And if you’re into happy 70s dirty disco funk this is a track for your box. And then the original version is a more urgent mix as it the Clavinet powers the funk like a primitive train. Definitely one for fans of Dr. Rubberfunk, Freestyle and all other serious funkers..

On the flip, Featurecast (aka Lee Mintram) who has appeared on Jalapeno Records and Fort Knox Records (you get the idea) gets on the remix of ‘Backbone’ as he “does the rhythm” in a funky house type way whilst the original is a much slower backbone and grind move of a “yeah, yeah, yeah” groove.

Now we know what funk is, if you’ve still not got it, suggest you get a Funktransplant from Home Breakin; “Funk Bombs! Disco Chants! Electro Niceties! Feelgood Dancerock!” out of Calgary, Canada - Feel the funk all over the place!
