Please note this is an old page and Fly Global Music has now moved. Please follow this link and search for the entry in the new site. The opening track ‘Autumn Eyes’ is a peace and love summer slice of poetic genius. It’s the strongest track on the album and the rest of the tracks by no means grabbed me in the same way, but it seems a great time to re-release this with the explosion of The Big Chill, the resurgence of several slightly dusty folk stars and the popularity of artists such as José González. Gary Marks has a voice which slides in a little bit like Paul Simon at his airiest, and okay, some of the lyrics wander a little weirdly, but the jazz guitar solo segued into ‘First Snowfall’ with Marks at his most James Taylorish. Solos from vibraphonist David Samuels and some great guitar from John Scofield add up to make this a chilled folk jazz classic you might want to give serious consideration to. Gathering is re-released on Kindred Spirits. |
