Kero One feat. Ben Westbeech - When The Sunshine Comes |

It’s been nearly three years since Kero One’s excellent Windmills of The Soul so we’ve been a bit impatient to hear the new single from the forthcoming new album, Early Believers. ‘When The Sunshine’ is a proper downtempo soulful mix of hip-hop and jazzy funk as Westbeech (fresh from Jazzanova’s ‘I Can See’ from Of All Things) sings the chorus to Kero One’s rap of love and happiness; great guitar lick with a slow groovy beat. ‘Welcome To The Bay’ is about the San Francisco Bay Area rather than a summer bay of sun, sea and sand. The 2008 date check is a little unfortunate as this single is due out this week but Kero’s tale of the shock of him and his penniless Korean parents re-locating to the land of hyphy (and much more); he moans “burgers and fries barely eatable” which made me smile as a veggie Windmills of The Soul was Reeemix magazine’s Best Hip Hop Album of 2006 and on the basis of these 2 tracks, Early Believers is likely to be just as good, if not better. We’ll keep you posted. Reviewed: Kero One - When The Sunshine Comes / Welcome To The Bay (Plug Label) Release date: 23 February 2009 Links: |
