Patchworks, and Still Music, are awesome. I don’t like to use the ‘A’ word too much but it’s true.

And so when the latest offering dropped onto my doormat, I eagerly scurried off into my room, locked the door, and turned it up loud. And, suffice to say, I wasn’t disappointed.

‘Celebration’ is a catchy soulful disco number. Think of Roy Ayers; think of an old-school party; think of a stunning bass hook and powerful vocals from Darius Rashaud. Then exagerrate those thoughts. And you’re not nearly there.

The man of the moment from Detroit, Amp Fiddler, turns in a sensational remix — making it slightly more funky and deep — as the man himself says, “just like we do in the D”.

And for the grand finale, Patchworks churns out a hypnotic, deep and soulful joint for the late late night people.
