The Bonedaddys - Waterslide

Baton down the hatches…the dance torrent, Waterslide, has arrived! Yes, The Bonedaddys are breaking out their much anticipated brand new album

bonedaddys

Led by percussionist Mike Tempo, The Bonedaddys put Los Angeles on the worldbeat music map in 1985 — with what many people think was the first US example of the genre. Literally, one of the co-creators of a whole major genre of music, The Bonedaddys are proud to announce a brash bouncing new album, with the impact of a landslide … called Waterslide.

How does this album stand up to their earlier classic favorites? Maybe because they never stopped the party, gigging festival after festival nonstop, this album is better, more fully orbed, and — yes- even more fun. ‘Hula Girl’ is my favorite track, I dare you to listen once without chanting the refrain for the rest of the day — finally giving the little dashboard diva the honor she deserves.

For The Bonedaddys, worldbeat has come full circle to include an expression of American roots music. As Mike Tempo explained to me, The Bonedaddys still take a “wide stance” stylistically, and claim influences ranging from Charles Ives to Burl Ives — with the common musical denominator being a big dance party ambiance.

The songs on Waterslide feature soulful vocals by Kaspar Abbo and King Cotton (whose name, Tempo informs me, comes from Elvis Presley’s favorite bacon brand) and a twin guitar attack with saxophone propelled by bass, drums and percussion, including some exotic instruments that will take you on a musical journey from the dancehalls of Louisiana to the jungles of distant continents.
