Toro Y Moi is the solo project of The Heist and The Accomplice lead singer Chaz Bundick and you can expect anything from folk to electronic to indie pop and ‘Left Alone At Night’ is all that and a bit more a la Mocky and Jamie Lidell.

Far easier to appreciate on first listen are the remixes. First up is Drop The Lime (aka Luca Venezia) who sticks to his rave roots and gets four to the floor spliced with some Northern Soul styled vibes. If you’d been in another timewarp, this is what Brooklyn baby Roy Ayres could have been up to if he’d been born 50 years later. I can see that Drop The Lime is going to be the name to drop this year following on from his remixes of Rex The Dog’s ‘I Can See You, Can You See Me?’ and the recent Dan Le Sac Vs Scroobius Pip featuring De La Soul’s Pos Plug Won edit of Thou Shalt Always Kill’.

And it’s about time we heard from Philadelphia’s Pink Skull again (last scene with their remix of David Gilmour Girls’ ‘Young Rats’) and here’s another that’s got that electro disco groove just right.

The last remix by Dave Allison who blends out the originals quirkiness into more of a straight forward house groove but that doesn’t mean it’s at all dull.

I like the idea of the Savant Guard, This is a very promising release considering it’s only their second 12” and I here there’s some digital download action from Afro Digi Scatch and Tom Lown. Definitely ones to watch out for in the dark of the disco.
