Moonstarr is so well known now that he’s more ‘global’ than anything else and this collection of remixes truly reflects that in terms of the artists and varying genres.

That’s why he’s self-portayed as a chef in the kitchen of beats. The ‘big’ one for me is the Povo remix (a particular Hectic favourite) in all it’s jazz house nine minutes of excellence. While there are some big names on this CD (Jazzanova, Pase Rock, Ennio Morricone, Recloose), it’s good to hear that PRT have included their local talent with Ivana Santilli.

Santilli’s ‘Breath Inn’ and the appropriately entitled ‘Dance Track’ are busy broken beatups, the latter being jazzier and only due out now (August) on a 12” on Sonar Kollektiv. With its noddlings, samba beat and ‘Gil Scot Heron’ interjections, this is likely to be a big end of summer release.

When you want a “Latin bomb of heavy proportions”, reach for ‘Greed’ and while ‘Incoming’ might be a couple of years old, it is surprising it didn’t get more feedback at the time as it’s sounding good today.

Hip-hop heads are covered by the opener ‘NY Boom’, ‘It’s About Time’ and there’s some Ragga/Dancehall mash goings-on with ‘Tough Dumplin’. Detroit fans get the Recloose track and ‘Come Closer’ by Todd Sines, originally out on Carl Craig’s Planet E label.

So while there’s always time to catch up with the past (Soul, Funk and Reggae on Jamaica To Toronto (apparently Moonstarr’s sister lives on Bathurst which must be close to Jackie Mittoo’s old record store) or jazz on Ready Or Not 2, Moonstarr’s remix is very much here, now and all over the kitchen. Well tasty I’d say.
