Please note this is an old page and Fly Global Music has now moved. Please follow this link and search for the entry in the new site. I’ve memories myself of a young Hectic landing on the prom with his Sony beat box and Grandmaster Flash on a mixtape. All the hot tunes were recorded off pirate radio (most likely Invicta) as the twin speakers brought ‘The Message’ to the north! Ha! The freaks do come out at night, vest, Nike trainers and a head sweatband. So with this wealth of teenage love welling up inside me, it still baffles that nearly 30 years on, hip hop still gets such a bad press. I still get, “you don’t like hip hop do you? I can’t stand it”. Fools I say as I know that they loved Run DMC and House of Pain back in the day. So just to remind you folks, this album is full of classics you love. ‘It’s Like That’ and ‘Jump Around’ (as featured in a great episode of My Name Is Earl last week (“I won’t jump for Joy”) just scratch the surface. By coincidence, ‘It Takes Two’ is on this compilation and the My Name Is Earl OST but there the coincidences end. (Ed. Hectic. That’s too much TV watching you know). Vintage Grooves has it all from old electric boogie break-dancing stuff to instrumental versions to N.W.A. If you know what I’m talking about, you know. If you’ve no idea, do yourself a favour and be surprised how much of this compilation you’ve heard over the years. It doesn’t matter how many times they re-package this era, these are classic tracks and you can’t argue with it as, it’s like that! No arguments, great cover photo. The soundtrack of our lives. Good Times, Those Were The Days, hang-on, that’s going back a little too far — rewind. Reviewed: Various — Vintage Grooves Old School Hip-Hip Vol. 1 (Seamless) Cat.
