Canadian-based DJ and producer Sultan first came on to the house scene in 2000 forming a close relationship with Deep Dish and their label Yoshitoshi. Since then Sultan has earned international acclaim as a producer, remixer and fan of the occasional mash-up.

In his own words ‘Yoshitoshi Montreal’ is “a depiction of the DJ and producer in me as well as a reflection of the impact that Yoshitoshi has made on the dance scene, Montreal and myself over the years. It encompasses a colourful array of moods and styles starting with the melodic and housey moving in to electro and progressive, ending with down tempo.”

House music is the back bone of the album with a preference for the uplifting, hands in the air variety. Both ‘Look Around’ (Spider & Legaz) and ‘Together We Rise’ (Sultan & Ned Shepard) point to a darker, moodier sound but for the most part the emphasis is on the funky. Elements of electro are brought in, the dirty bass of ‘Smaller’ (Suite 117) being my favourite, but this is definitely one for house heads.
