When we’ve got the achievements of a legend like Dennis Coffey, you do wonder why a new album? Well the short answer, at least to these ears, he’s still got more to contribute to the back catalogue of fabulous music and there’s a list of current stars who are more than happy to join in.
With most of the UK covering in snow, what better week to launch a book dedicated to the cover art of Bossa Nova albums released in Brazil in the 1960s?

When Andy Votel isn’t putting his talents to creating album covers for Far Out Recordings he spends all his time on his other passion, creating a mix of experimental, psychedelic, folk sci-fi popcorn and his latest album is vintage Votel.

Radio 1′s Gilles Peterson played a track this week from the fifth Os Ipanemas album on Far Out Recordings and although it’s a busy week, these new recordings from “the original Afro-Brazilian Kings” have rarely sounded better.
Once again Joe Davis at Far Out Recordings does it again, this time with a re-issue of a very highly sort after album that feature some of the best, if not greatest, Cuban musicians of all time! Irakere’s Cuba Libre is fantastic to say the least!
Now spring has sprung, welcome to the new age of Aquarius from the Brazilian music stars Joyce Moreno and Joao Donato; “beautiful and understated” is an understatement.
Far Out release the Original Sound Track to the brilliant film Garrincha ‘Estrela Solitaria’ on CD and they couldn’t have timed it better.
First off, don’t let the title of this 2CD compilation put you off as the 23 tracks are not in any way second rate – this is Zero dB after all!
The Brazilian jazz equivalent of “dolphins, seals, birds, fish, sharks, cliffs, moonlight, glassy water” is The Wave; that means it’s another Far Out Recordings slab of excellence.
